Her voice is engraved both in our hearts and memory. She was born in 1941, in Piraeus, with a distinctive voice that was soon meant to captivate all Greeks. Her funeral will take place this Saturday, the 2nd of October.

2,700 year old grave on Crete island

Greek archaeologists have discovered an ancient skeleton covered in gold in a grave on the southern part of the island of Crete. They noted that the grave, dating back to the 7th century B.C. , contained more than 3,000 pieces of gold foil. The tiny ornaments, up to four 4 centimetres long, had been sewn onto a lavish robe or shroud that has almost completely rotted away, and initially wrapped the body of a woman.

Striking freight and fuel truck drivers late Tuesday night decided to continue their labor action, which entered its 14th day on Wednesday, with an overwhelming majority of 76 of the 96 truckers’ unions voting in favor of continuing the moblisations, and just 6 against, while 14 cast blank votes, after a marathon General Assembly of the Panhellenic Federation of truck owners. Government spokesman George Petalotis said Monday night after the truckers’ decision was announced that the government has exhausted all margins, noting that the closure of outstanding tax obligations draft law also foresees special arrangements for the truck owners. Merchants and enterprises, which have been hard hit by the strike, have indicated that they will take recourse to justice against the truckers.

The Greek ferry boat Super Ferry 2 smashed into the main pier when approached the island of Tinos. The Ferry had departed from the island of Andros with 124 passengers. Thankfully, there are no injuries. The ferry will not be able to sail until the controlled water inflow is totally stopped. The Coast Guard is further investigating the conditions and causes of the accident, which could have been fatal under different circumstances.
