Great Dishes of Greece
Food | Thursday Aug 25, 2011
Here is a brief list of some of the great Greek dishes:
Keftedes - This is kind of deep-fried meatballs which change according to part of the city you are in. You most probably will love all varieties of Keftedes. Try it!
Melitzana Salata – It is an eggplant salad. This is similar to Babaganoush, which is a salad made in the Middle East and eaten on bread. Delicious!
Mousaka – It is baked, too, and it is similar to eggplant parmesan but it doesn’t have as much tomato sauce like in eggplant parmesan. It contains cinnamon, eggplant, ground beef, onions, oil, potatoes, and a butter, flour, and milk topping.
Pastitsio – It is very similar to Lasagna but not as saucy as that. Pastitsio consists of layered noodles, meat, tomato sauce, and toppings that are similar to mousaka but not quite as dense.
Stifado – It is a stew that is made with lots of small onions, tomatoes and with lamb, octopus, or rabbit.
There are also more great salads of Greek kitchen like Capari Salad, Choriatiki salad, Lakanika (cabbage salad), Tiro Salata (cheese salad). Here are some of the delicious pies as well: Kreatopita (meat pie), Spanakopita (spinach pie), Tiropita (cheese pie)…
